Staff,

In April of 2007, eLife started in a small prayer meeting. Twelve of us gathered together to pray that day.

I remember leading them to pray that 10,000 people would get saved in 10 years.

I felt like it was ridiculous that we were even praying for something like that. 10,000 in 10 years? In Lubbock? Are you serious? But we prayed for it anyways.

We just celebrated our 7 year anniversary & 8,622 so far have indicated a commitment to Christ.

Clearly, we couldn’t know when 10,000 people actually get saved but what we meant was just that 10,000 people would let us know they’re desiring to be saved & commit their lives to Christ.

We decided to use a connection card to let people tell us they were making that decision. We could’ve counted raised hands, or had people stand up, but we felt like the numbers would be too inflated & we would end up with a lot of duplicates.

So, when you hear 8,622 indications of commitments to Christ, that’s UNIQUE people who actually filled out a card. I’m sure there are many more who committed their lives to Christ that we don’t even know about.

We’re already close to 10,000 & we still have several years to hit it.

It’s still unreal to me that we’ve gotten to be a part of this. Maybe our prayer wasn’t as ridiculous as we thought. In fact, maybe it was too small.

What a privilege!
